Looking for volunteers to scan yearbooks for WHS Yearbook Archive
Chuck Lucas
Les Tlougan, retired (2009) Director of the Waseca High School Media Center, has been developing an archive of Waseca High School Yearbooks. Up to now, he has been doing the scanning himself. We're looking for volunteers to help add to the collection. The current goal is to have yearbooks scanned and added to the archives as classes have their reunions and by the time of Waseca's next All-School Reunion in 2018.
Here's a link to the yearbooks currently in the archives: Waseca High School Yearbook Archives.
Did you know that the first WHS yearbook to be called the Bluejay was published in 1948? Prior to that it was called the Moccasin. Do you know when the first Moccasin was published? The oldest Mocassin in the WHS Yearbook Archives was published in 1928.
I just scanned my 1959 WHS Bluejay Yearbook for inclusion in the WHS Yearbook Archives and I told Les that I'd look for volunteers to scan the early yearbooks that he's missing and the later yearbooks that he hasn't gotten to yet. So, if you'd like to volunteer to scan yearbooks you've got access to, please contact Les or me.
The criteria for yearbook scanning follows:
- The yearbook should be reasonably clean and should have little or no writing in it.
- Resize page scans to 700 pixels on the long side (height in portrait format, width in landscape format).
- Save image at an approximate size of 100K (90K - 110K will do).
- Save images on a CD to submit for posting on the WHS web site.
- Send CD to Les Tlougan, 710 4th Ave NE, Waseca, MN 56093.
If you can scan a yearbook but don't have the software to resize the images, please contact me to see if we can arrange to have the images resized by someone else. (I use Adobe Photoshop Elements. It's available for $99).
What about Sacred Heart High School and Southern School of Agriculture Yearbooks? According to Les Tlougan, Waseca High School holds the copyright for the WHS yearbooks. Who owns the copyright for the SHHS and SSA yearbooks? Is there any interest in scanning the SHHS and SSA yearbooks for archive purposes? If you're interested, contact me and we'll see if we can work something out.
