from the attorney general's and the state superintendent's office. In a recent
letter from the state superintendent he says, "All schools applying for state
aid next year will have to be supplied with a set of six or eight maps and a
globe." 1910/ City, County, State Topics - E. H. Smith and Sheehan & Johnston will again fill
the icehouses of the C. & N. W. railway company between Waseca and Tracy,
and perhaps east of here for some distance. 1935/ Van Loh Puts in Claim for $2,023 H. M. Gallagher appeared before the county board today as
attorney for H. C. Van Loh, ex-superintendent of schools, presenting a bill for
$2023.52 for mileage and expenses for the past six years. 1935/ Contest Winner Is Announced Ralph Henkensiefken was declared winner of the child
popularity contest which closed Saturday. He will receive a cash prize of $20
which will be awarded at the L. J. Lewis studio. Picture prizes will be awarded
winners of second, third and fourth places. The contest was sponsored by a group
of local business firms. The final standings of the 10 high were: Ralph
Henkensiefken, 692,250; Mavis Armstrong, 636,000; Joan Manthey, 414,400; Patrick
Donahue, 327,250; Bethel Krueger, 301,250; Shirley Kopishke, 123,800; Keith
Spalding, 82,250; Virginia Plummer, 55,850; Roger Dahnert, 39,300; Cecelia
Murphy, 33,850. 1935/ Johnstons Gets C & NW Ice Contract The W. C. Johnston Ice Co. of this city have been given
the contract to furnish 5800 tons of ice for the C. & N. W. Ry. Co. They
will also cut 1500 tons for their own ice house. The company will give work to
some 15 men over a period of three weeks or more. 1960/ 62 Wasecans Attending 'Kato State Sixty-two students from Waseca are enrolled at Mankato
State college according to the 1959-1960 issue of the Student and Faculty
Directory. This directory is published by the Mankato State College chapter of
Pi Delta Epsilon, the National Honorary Journalism
Fraternity. 1985/ Memorable teachers Following are two of the winning entries in an essay contest which challenged high school seniors to write about their most inspirational teacher.
