Jon Summer graduated from Waseca High School in 1993. He was a three-sport athlete, earning seven varsity letters as a Bluejay, two in football, three in wrestling and two in baseball.

Jon played baseball under Coach Tink Larson. In his senior year, the Bluejays were Sub-Section 1 champions and Section 2A runner-up. In a game against Owatonna, he hit a towering blast over the left field wall for a grand slam homerun to help the Bluejays to a victory.

As a football player, Jon was an outstanding two-way performer for the Bluejays at end and linebacker. His senior year, Summer was the number two receiver in conference play with 15 catches for 265 yards. For the year, he caught 22 passes and was a capable runner after the catch, chalking up nearly 17 yards every reception. Summer may have been even better on the other side of the ball. Making a successful switch from defensive end to linebacker, he was the fourth leading tackler in the conference with 66 tackles. Overall he had 97 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and totaled 132 defensive points for Waseca. He was selected to the South Central Conference team his junior and senior year.

In the three years that Jon lettered in wrestling, he won numerous awards. He was a co-captain, named to the All-Area team twice, the All-Conference team twice, selected Area co-wrestler of the year, won a South Central Conference team championship, Region 2A Champion, state tournament entrant twice, and a third place medallist at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament. In his senior year, he set the school record for most wins (32) in a season and for most pins (18) in a season. Jon was also selected to the Guillotine Academic Team All-State Wrestler of the year at 171 lbs. At the state wrestling tourney, Jon won his first match, then lost to the eventual state champion by one point. In the wrestle-backs, Jon won four straight matches to win 3rd place. His 3rd place match was a thrilling 10-8 sudden death overtime victory.

Jon continued his athletic and academic career at Hamline University, graduating in 1997. He was a four-year letter winner and a three-year starter at tight end. He also played on special teams and middle linebacker. In his senior year, he tied a Hamline school record for touchdowns by a tight end (3) in a game, was honored as first team all MIAC at tight end, selected as one of three Preseason All-American tight ends in Division III across the country and won the MIAC Football Championship.

Jon is currently employed by the Farmington Area Public Schools and serves as the District Athletic Director. He resides in Farmington along with his wife Nika and three sons, Will, Sam, and Lucas.
