for a teachers' meeting, to be held in this city on Friday and Saturday of next
week. An interesting and instructive program has been prepared, and every
teacher in the county who can possibly do so should be in
attendance... 1911/ City, County, State Topics - J. L. Seha, the veteran sorghum syrup manufacturer of
Janesville township, was a pleasant caller at the Herald office Saturday. He has
been engaged in the manufacture of syrup for 28 years and knows the business
like a book. He says the sugar cane crop was good this year, and, as a
consequence, there is not such a brisk demand for sorghum as usual. The syrup
sells at the same price as last year, despite the fact that the price of sugar
has gone sky-high. Mr. Seha and his fellow farmers do not belong to any billion
dollar trust, consequently the sale of their products is governed by the law of
supply and demand and not raised arbitrarily at
will. 1936/ Just How Old Is Grandpa The Waseca Journal has just received a copy of the
pamphlet entitled "Builders of Minnesota: The Contribution of the Press." It was
taken from an address by Herman Roe at the State Day Convention at the
University of Minnesota. It lists the pioneer newspapers of Minnesota and ranks
the Waseca Journal and the Owatonna Journal-Chronicle as the 21 and 22nd
newspapers established in Minnesota. The date of establishment is given as
1863. 1936/ School Notes Election Results 1961/ Tuberculin Tests Next in Schools Tuberculin tests, the simple skin test that shows whether
or not an individual has been infected with the tuberculosis germs, will be
offered to pupils in grades 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, new pupils, and children who
were not tested before entering school this fall. 1961/ Karen Pittman Plays Title Role in Class Play "Tammy Tell Me True," the Junior class play to be
presented at the Southern School of Agriculture on November 16 and 17, is the
story of irresistible Tammy Tyree, a shanty-boat girl with no formal education,
but wise in the knowledge of people. 1961/ Waseca Musicians Band of Week on WCCO Radio The Central high school band will be featured as Band of
the Week on WCCO radio Prep Parade tomorrow night. The program can be heard from
8 to 8:40 p.m. 1961/ Two Wasecans at St. Cloud State Judith F. Larsen and Karen E. Roal of Waseca are among
more than 4,000 resident students enrolled at St. Cloud State College this
fall. 1986/ Marching Jays concert this weekend After listening to members of the Waseca High School
Marching Jays described this weekend's indoor marching band concert, only one
word is needed to explain. 1986/ First woman commissioner Julie Milow doesn't feel like county history maker Last Tuesday's victory in the fourth district Waseca
County Commissioner race was historic. For the first time, a woman was elected
to a position on the county board. 1986/ Legion to honor teachers, staff Plans for community participation in the observance of
American Education Week, November 16-22 were released today by Waseca Post 228
