    Kay L. Carlsen, age 74 of Waseca, formerly of Waterville, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.

    Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 27th at 7:00 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca with Reverend David C. Mumme officiating. Interment will be in the Sakatah Cemetery.

    The Carlsen Family will greet friends on Friday afternoon from 5 to 7 p.m. at McRaith Funeral & Crematory in Waseca. Memorials are preferred to a local food shelf of the donor's choice.

    Kay Louise was born on July 15, 1937 to Everett and Eva (Francisco) Quiram in Rochester, Minnesota. She was a 1955 graduate of the Minnesota Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca. Kay was married in 1958, and was blessed with her four children. In 1983 she graduated Suma Cum Laude from Mankato State University, and in 1992 graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Masters of Education from the University of Texas-Edinburg. Over the years Kay lived and worked in Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa, and Texas. She returned to Minnesota in 1992, and for the last 9 years has resided in Waseca. During her life Kay's passion was serving the elderly.

    She is survived by her sons, Timothy Everett Carlsen of Colorado Springs, CO, and Gregory Thomas (Darla) Carlsen of Waterville; by her daughters Susan Kay Carlsen of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rebecca Jo Carlsen of Boston, MA; by her grandchildren, Heather, Missy, Alex, Courtny, Amber Kay, and Zachary, and her great grandchildren, Jaydon and Maki; by her nieces and nephews and their families; by her best friend and care giver, Bobbie de Bruin of Waseca.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; by her maternal and paternal grandparents; by her beloved aunt, Vada.
