1912/ A Fine Ball Game
One of the best ball games ever witnessed on the home
diamond was played last Sunday afternoon between New Ulm and Waseca. It was
largely a pitchers battle, but there was clean, Snappy playing all along the
line. Will. Foster, the first man up for Waseca landed a score, and that was the
only score made during the game... Ben. Gallagher pitched
for Waseca and had 11 strike outs to his credit, and allowed only three
hits. - 100 years ago, May 30, 1912, Waseca Herald
1937/ Younger Team Loses Twice over Weekend
Waseca's junior ballclub, members of the Southern
Minnesota Association, spent a memorable Memorial Day week end when they dropped
two ballgames, one to Mapleton Sunday by a score of 14 to 0 and another to
Jordan Monday by a closer score of 6 to 1. During the
Sunday game against Mapleton, the boys just couldn't seem to hit their stride
with the hickory and received only seven bingles, none of them grouped enough to
plate a run. Meanwhile Mapleton collected 13 hits, 10 on Paulson who twirled for
the first six innings and three on Connolley who finished the
game... In the Monday game at Jordan, the team bounced
around the pitching of Baughman and kept the Jordanites on edge throughout six
innings of fast baseball... Baughman held the Jordan team
to seven hits and pitched a creditable game throughout. Showing admirable
control, he struck out six men and walked but two. - 75

1962/ Jeff Lewis in State Golf Meet Monday, June 4
Waseca qualified one man for the state golf tournament to
be held Monday, June 4 at the University of Minnesota.
That player is Jeff Lewis, a sophomore at Central. Jeff shot an 18-hole total of
84 in the Region One meet Friday at Rochester and actually tied for second place
with Bob Davies of Albert Lea. Davies defeated Lewis in a
four-hole playoff to determine positions at the state
meet. Lewis is the youngest golfer from Central ever to
win a trip to the state meet. Previous players in the state were Wayne Breck,
Roger Byron and Larry Olson. Breck was a junior at the time while Byron and
Olson were seniors... Other than Jeff's 84 count, Steve
