1912/ Waseca Wins Another
The ball game last Sunday, between the Waseca and
Ellendale teams, resulted in a victory for Waseca by a score of 5 to 6. The
local players felt confident from the first that they would win the game, and
consequently did not exert themselves to the utmost at any time. Hartwick
pitched a good, steady game, striking out five men and allowing but five
hits. - 100 years ago, June 13, 1912, Waseca Herald

According to press reports coming through the channels of
The Owatonna Daily People's Press, the Waseca representatives of the Southern
Minnesota League are causing no end of had-Eats to their opposition following a
short glance at the season's ratings compiled recently which shows that the team
is batting .331 for the season. Added to this the team has a .968 fielding
record and consistent pitching which this year has yielded an average of eight
trips to the plate for a .316 average per game. Myers,
leadoff man for Waseca, has registered six hits in 19 official [at bats]. R.
Gray has made one in 12 for .083, yet retains the title as one of Waseca's most
dangerous men at bat. He seldom strikes out, and is exceptional in the matter of
laying down bunts. Bob Hahn and Happy Lowe have identical
averages of .400, each getting eight in 20, while Johnson has registered seven
in 16 for .438. W. Gray has .350 on seven in 20 and Groebner has seven for 10
with a .700 average having played but two and one-half
games. Catcher Bauman is averaging .333 with six in 18 and
Bell has made two in 13 for .154, with Sponberg following with one in 10.
Fiebiger has made two trips to the plate without hits. -

1962/ Braves Rally Nips Henderson Sunday in Thriller 4-3; Take Over
League Lead in Winning Fifth Straight
An unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the
Waseca Braves a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Henderson Sunday night at
Community Field and boosted the Braves into sole possession of first place in
the Le Sueur County league. The Braves ran their season's
record to 4-0 in loop play and made it five straight over-all. The loss snapped
a three-game win string for Henderson, now 3-1 in the
league. Manager Warren Dunn's crew thus wins the right to
play host in the 1962 Le Sueur County league all-star game which will be held
Wednesday, June 20 at 8:15. The all-stars will be made up of players from
Henderson, Montgomery, LeCenter and Le Sueur... Mike Gray,
speedy Braves shortstop, was the culprit as far as Henderson was concerned. Gray
dropped a "Texas league" double to short left-center field with one out in the
ninth. As Gray was sliding into second, the throw from the left fielder went
soaring over the second baseman's head and into the dugout area of the Braves.
Ground rules permitted Gray to come all the way home with the winning and
unearned run making it a two base throwing error. - 50

1962/ New Ulm Downs Vet's Midgets on One-Hitter 7-3
Waseca's VFW Midget baseball nine suffered an opening day
loss at the hands of New Ulm Saturday afternoon at Community Field by a score of
7-3... Jerry Gleisner, husky right-hander for the
visitors, held the Vets hitless until Bob Good broke the spell with an infield
hit in the seventh. Waseca scored two runs in the final frame but could not keep
the rally going. New Ulm slapped out eight hits off Jerry
Tollefson and reliever Dan Kelly. Tollefson was forced out of the game with a
sore finger on his pitching hand in the fourth inning. He allowed six hits and
all seven runs during this stint. Kelly worked three and a
third innings and allowed only two hits while striking out
four. - 50 years ago, June 13, 1962, Waseca Journal
1987/ Bluejays win at state; Case throws one-hitter
Waseca Bluejay baseball team advanced to the Final Four of
the Minnesota High School State Tournament with a 3-0 opening-round victory over
Norwood-Young America Tuesday at St. Cloud. The Bluejays,
now 21-3 on the year, will play St. Cloud Cathedral Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the
Metrodome in a semi-final game... The Bluejays scored
twice in the first inning and once in the second and then rode the one-hit,
shutout pitching of lefthander Chris Case to the victory.
Case surrendered only an infield single in the second inning in hurling his
fifth shutout of the year. Centerfielder Derrick Harmon saved one hit with a
spectacular catch of a long drive. Harmon raced with his back to the infield to
make a sensational catch near the centerfield fence. Case
walked three and struck out seven in raising his record to 10-0 for the season
and lowering his earned run average to 0.75. - 25 years

senior shortstop, was selected to an infield position. She batted .391 in SCC

1987/ Bluejays' Tramp to play in All-Star Baseball Game
Bluejays' catcher Doug Tramp has been selected to play in
the Lions All-Star High School Baseball Tournament that will be held in the Twin
Cities June 18 and 19. Doug will be one of 24 out-state
seniors that will be playing against 24 seniors from the Twin Cities and
suburban communities. Three games will be played with the
first game Thursday, June 18 at the Metrodome at 7 p.m. The other two will be
played at the St. Paul Municipal Stadium June 19 starting at 5
p.m... Doug has been the catcher for the Bluejay baseball
team this past season and is a big reason the Bluejays are now in the state
tournament. His strong hitting and catching are the backbone of the
team. - 25 years ago, June 11, 1987, Waseca County News
1987/ Bluejays take third at state; Dufault, Tveite Star
The Bluejay baseball team capped an outstanding season by
winning third place at the state tournament which concluded Saturday at the
Metrodome. The Bluejays finished the season with a 22-4
record after winning one and losing one Saturday at the
Dome. The Bluejays edged Windom 4-3 in 11 innings for the
third-place trophy after losing to St. Cloud Cathedral 3-2 in the semi-finals
and winning in the opening-round 3-0 over Norwood.
Windom game Monte
Dufault and Joel Tveite were the big heroes for the Bluejays in winning the
Windom game that gave the Bluejays the third-place trophy. Monte with his
game-winning home run and Joel with his brilliant 11 inning pitching
performance.
St. Cloud Cathedral game
The loss to Cathedral in the semi finals ended the Jays hopes of a state
championship. "The inability of our team to come up with the key hit in scoring
situations hurt the cause," Bluejay coach Tink Larson
said... Chris Case lost his first game of the season to
end up 10-1. He gave up just four hits, walking six and striking out six. All of
Cathedral's runs had gotten on base by walks. - 25 years
