1912/ Base Ball Notes
The Waseca ball team had another "off" the last Sunday in
the Austin team easily won by a score of 11 to 4. Austin has a good team, but
not good enough to beat Waseca when our boys are in proper
form. The Rex's shut out the New Richland Cubs last Sunday
on the new Richland diamond, score 13 to 0. Bennett threw for the Rex's getting
12 strikeouts and allowing but two hits and one walk. The Rex's have been
strengthened by the addition of Clayton and Galligan who play center and third
respectively. - 100 years ago, July 11, 1912, Waseca

1937/ Waseca Scores Shutout Over Mankato 9 to 0
With the blood of vengeance sparkling in their eyes
following a defeat at the hands of St. Peter a week ago Waseca's League team
took the home field Sunday and played one of the finest games witnessed at the
fair grounds this season in shutting out Mankato 8 to 0.
The main features of Waseca's devastating attack were the control shown by Bell
in pitching six hit ball, meanwhile striking out 13 opposition batsmen; a pair
of home runs by Bob Gray and Hap Lowe and a brace of doubles by Lowe and
Sponberg. Committing but one error in the field, the Wasecans allowed one runner
to reach third base. - 75 years ago, July 14, 1937,

1962/ Braves Top Wells Tuesday 5-2; Edmunds Makes Surprise Appearance
The Waseca Braves notched their 10th win in 13 starts
Tuesday night by handing Wells of the State Line league a 5-2 exhibition loss at
Community Field in a game that saw the surprise return of the once great Vern
Edmunds to the lineup. Edmunds was asked to suit up by
Manager Warren Dunn to pitch a few innings. Vern did just that. Working in
relief of Marlin Kreutz, the lean right-hander went the last four innings and
failed to give up a hit. He looked fantastically sharp for his first appearance
of the year walking only one and striking out five. Kreutz
appeared none the worse for his recent scrape in a car accident Sunday night. He
worked five innings giving up the only four hits Wells garnered, two of them the
infield variety, and both runs. Kreutz walked two and whiffed five in gaining
credit for the win, his ninth against one setback this
season. - 50 years ago, July 11, 1962, Waseca Journal

and capped an eight-run inning which broke open a close 3-1

4-4 performance with [Mike] Larson, Hayford, Craig Miller and Todd Dufault all
adding two hits each. Lefthander Craig Miller, off to his

1987/ Legion wins over Tigers, Northfield
The Waseca American Legion baseball team won a pair of
games this this week by big margins, topping Albert Lea 9-2 and Northfield
14-3. Post 228 is now 11-2 for the year.
Waseca broke a 1-1 game against Albert Lea wide open with a six run sixth

Dufault. The Tigers committed four errors in the inning.
Dufault and Derrick Harmon each had two hits for Waseca with Dufault

highlighted by Greg Vilt's two-run double which gave Waseca a 2-1
lead... Dufault led the way at the plate with four

his average to .452 for the summer. Harmon added three
