Congregational Church
Congregational Church
Posted by: Chuck Date Posted: Oct 05, 2008
Description:Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) of the old Congregational Church. The church was dedicated on March 30, 1871, and was located at 317 East Elm Ave. In 1890 the church was moved to the site of the present church at the corner of Second Ave. and Fifth St. NE and a wing was added to the original building. In 1924 the interior of the building was remodeled. The church steeple was damaged by lightning in 1942 necessitating its removal. The entire church was destroyed by fire in 1951. It was replaced on the same location by the modern First Congregational Church. The postcard was never mailed and was not dated. The stampbox indicates the card was printed in 1908.
